Principal OpenShift GitOps & Virtualisation Architect Location: South Dublin Working Model: Hybrid Contract: 12 months Rate: Strong daily rate available The Opportunity I'm recruiting for a senior OpenShift / GitOps Architect to help shape the automation, governance and lifecycle management of a large-scale hybrid application platform. The role will focus on establishing robust operating models for OpenShift Container Platform and OpenShift Virtualisation, with particular emphasis on GitOps, multi-cluster management, platform automation and governance. Working across OpenShift GitOps, Argo CD and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (ACM), you will assess existing platform capabilities, identify opportunities for improvement and define scalable standards for deployment, configuration, policy management and lifecycle operations. The position will also have a strong focus on the evolution of enterprise virtualisation, including VMware-to-OpenShift Virtualisation migration, workload assessment and application modernisation. This will involve identifying suitable candidates for containerisation and establishing repeatable patterns for onboarding workloads onto the modern platform. This is a hands-on architecture role requiring someone who can operate comfortably between strategic architecture, technical design and implementation. You will provide direction to engineering teams while producing the standards, designs and governance frameworks required to operate the platform at scale. Key Responsibilities Define the target architecture and operating model for OpenShift platform automation and lifecycle management Shape GitOps practices across multi-cluster OpenShift environments Assess and improve existing Argo CD, OpenShift GitOps and ACM implementations Establish standards for configuration management, policy enforcement and platform governance Define scalable approaches to cluster deployment, upgrades, configuration and ongoing management Develop architecture and governance models for OpenShift Virtualisation Define VM lifecycle, onboarding and operational management patterns Develop repeatable approaches for migrating workloads from VMware to OpenShift Virtualisation Assess existing application estates and identify suitable candidates for containerisation Define application modernisation and onboarding patterns Develop disaster recovery, resilience and recovery orchestration strategies Provide technical leadership across platform engineering and delivery teams Produce architecture documentation, standards, HLDs, LLDs and reference designs Mentor engineering teams and provide architectural guidance throughout implementation Required Experience 10+ years' experience across platform engineering, infrastructure, automation or technology architecture 5+ years' hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift Deep expertise with Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (ACM) Strong hands-on experience with Argo CD and OpenShift GitOps Proven experience designing and managing multi-cluster OpenShift estates Experience assessing and improving established GitOps implementations within complex enterprise environments Strong practical knowledge of OpenShift Virtualisation and KubeVirt Experience designing and operating virtual machine workloads on OpenShift Knowledge of VMware-to-OpenShift Virtualisation migration approaches Experience assessing workloads for containerisation and application modernisation Strong understanding of GitOps governance, Policy-as-Code and declarative platform management Experience with OpenShift platform lifecycle management, including upgrades and operational governance Knowledge of disaster recovery and resilience strategies for container and virtualisation platforms Strong architecture documentation skills, including HLDs, LLDs, standards and reference architectures Excellent stakeholder engagement and technical leadership capabilities Key Deliverables The successful architect will be responsible for delivering: Assessment and improvement roadmap for the existing GitOps, ACM and automation landscape Target-state OpenShift GitOps and platform operating model Matured ACM and Argo CD governance and operating standards OpenShift Virtualisation architecture, governance and VM lifecycle standards VMware migration and workload onboarding patterns Application modernisation and containerisation assessment framework Platform governance and Policy-as-Code standards Disaster recovery and operational resilience architecture HLDs, LLDs, reference architectures and technical standards Technical leadership, mentoring and architectural guidance for platform engineering teams Please note: Applicants must have unrestricted, full-time eligibility to work in Ireland.
