Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team This role will be leading Stripe’s Data Protection & Privacy Legal team, which is responsible for designing and managing Stripe’s global privacy program. This team assesses privacy and data-protection laws worldwide, and partners with cross-functional teams, including operational and engineering teams, to drive compliance and implement privacy-by-design throughout Stripe’s products & services.

We are a globally distributed team, helping Stripe increase the GDP of the internet by protecting the data our Users entrust to us. Currently the team is distributed across the US, EU, and APAC.

What you’ll do Stripe’s Global Head of Privacy will be primarily responsible for managing a global privacy program, ensuring Stripe’s compliance with applicable data-protection laws, and building a culture of privacy at Stripe. This person will lead a team of high-performing privacy professionals, providing both short-term and long-term vision and strategies to ensure we adequately protect our Users’ data.

Responsibilities Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of privacy lawyers and privacy-program professionals.

Advise and coordinate on a variety of legal activities related to all aspects of Stripe’s privacy program globally, including contract negotiation, product development, marketing initiatives, evaluation of data-processing activities, incident management, and more.

Advise Stripe’s Product teams and executive-level management on privacy and data-protection issues.

Ensure that Stripe’s products and services comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), applicable privacy laws, and our commitments to our Users.

Amplify the impact of existing and new legislative and regulatory developments to ensure that Stripe’s leaders and their teams understand and comply with evolving requirements.

Partner with leadership across Legal, Security, Engineering, Operations, and Product Teams to develop appropriate policies and procedures, implement Privacy by Design, and promote good privacy posture.

Represent Stripe externally as the primary individual corresponding with data-protection regulators, industry groups, and other key privacy stakeholders.

Represent Stripe internally as the primary individual corresponding with executives, Boards, audit teams, and risk committee forums on privacy topics.

Who you are We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

15+ years’ experience as a practicing lawyer working on data-protection and privacy legal issues, with particular depth on US, European, and APAC data-privacy regulations and the regimes governing transfer of data between the US and other nations.

A strong background in technology, and a demonstrated ability to converse with engineering leadership with specificity and depth about the ways that we collect and process data.

Strong leadership skills with a proven track record in people management, with the ability to provide vision on both the short-term and long-term trajectory of the team.

Strong executive-communication skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex challenges.

Demonstrated experience interfacing with privacy regulators.

Demonstrated experience in incident management.

Preferred qualifications Experience in fintech or another fast-growing and global technology company.

Experience scaling a privacy program from early years to maturity.

Experience working with audit and lines of oversight.

Our Chicago, Dublin, and Singapore teams spend at least 50% of their time in their local offices. We believe that more in-person interactions will contribute to better results for our employees and Stripe. Increased office time allows for improved collaboration, efficiency, and informal learning opportunities, fostering a stronger community and building our culture. We will apply the insights gained from these initial three locations to continue refining our hybrid approach. The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €162,900 - €244,300. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.

At Stripe, we're looking for people with passion, grit, and integrity. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't precisely match the job description. Your skills and passion will stand out—and set you apart—especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns. At Stripe, we welcome diverse perspectives and people who think rigorously and aren't afraid to challenge assumptions. Join us.
