BI Engineer

My client is based in Westmeath and are currently recruiting for a Engineering Team Lead to join the team on a permanent basis. The BI Developer is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining Business Intelligence solutions that transform complex data into meaningful, actionable insights. Working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams, the role delivers trusted reporting and analytics solutions that support informed decision-making across the organisation. The role combines technical expertise with business understanding to develop scalable, secure and high-performing Power BI solutions. Responsibilities include dashboard development, semantic modelling, data visualisation, performance optimisation and governance, while ensuring reporting solutions are reliable, user-focused and aligned with organisational standards. The role primarily utilises Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric to develop, deploy and support enterprise reporting solutions. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards that provide clear, accurate and meaningful business insights. Translate business requirements into effective reporting solutions, including visualisations, measures, KPIs, drill-through functionality, filters and navigation. Develop and maintain semantic models that provide consistent, trusted data for reporting and self-service analytics. Create efficient and maintainable DAX measures, calculations and business logic using industry best practices. Optimise report and model performance by improving data models, calculations, visual rendering and overall solution efficiency. Work within Microsoft Fabric and the Power BI Service to manage workspaces, semantic models, deployments, refresh schedules and application publishing. Implement and maintain appropriate security controls, including workspace permissions and Row-Level Security (RLS), ensuring secure access to reporting solutions. Support testing, quality assurance and user acceptance activities, resolving issues and implementing enhancements where required. Produce and maintain technical documentation covering reports, semantic models, calculations, data sources, refresh schedules and support procedures. Monitor and support operational reporting processes, including scheduled refreshes, production support, issue resolution and controlled release management. Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, business stakeholders and other technical teams to deliver high-quality Business Intelligence solutions. Promote best practices in Business Intelligence development, data governance, solution design and reporting standards. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Proven experience developing and supporting Business Intelligence solutions within a commercial environment. Strong expertise in Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, DAX, Power Query, semantic modelling and report performance optimisation. Experience working with Microsoft Fabric or comparable cloud-based analytics platforms. Advanced SQL skills, including writing, optimising and troubleshooting complex queries, developing views and validating reporting datasets. Good understanding of data modelling principles, dimensional modelling and how reporting solutions integrate with modern data platforms. Experience translating business requirements into scalable, maintainable reporting solutions. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across both technical and business teams. Experience managing multiple priorities across project delivery, continuous improvement initiatives and operational support.
