Job DescriptionBalmer Dawson Executive Search is delighted to partner with the Passionist Community at Mount Argus to appoint a General Manager. This is a brand new role, created to provide professional operational leadership and to future-proof the Communitys management and operations for the years ahead. Location: Mount Argus Community, Dublin 6W Position Type: This is a permanent contract. It is full time Monday -Friday, 37 hours, with flexibility to respond to occasional urgent matters or emergencies. Reporting to: The Rector About the Passionists The Passionists in Ireland are part of a global Catholic male religious congregation committed to pastoral ministry, spiritual development and chaplaincy. Their spirituality has particular resonance for the suffering of today. In Ireland, Passionists work in parishes, chaplaincy, pastoral and counselling ministries. The Passionists have had a presence in Mount Argus since 1856 and have strong links with the local community and beyond. The monastery and church are familiar to many, especially through the healing ministry of St Charles of Mount Argus. Mount Argus comprises a community of 20 Passionists, the Provincial Office, the Church, the St Charles Centre, the cemetery and gardens. About the role This is a new role, responding to the increasingly complex requirements of supporting the Passionist community. The role includes management of staff, facilities and property, as well as care of the elderly. It involves compliance with administrative and regulatory requirements. There is a small team of full-time and part-time staff working in the areas of catering, housekeeping, administration, facilities and grounds maintenance and care of the elderly. The role will involve day-to-day management of this team and the overall campus. The General Manager will act as a key liaison between the staff and the resident Passionist community. The ideal candidate will combine strong commercial acumen and team leadership with a deep respect for the ethos, values and mission of the Passionists. Key Responsibilities Line Management & HR Line management of a multi-disciplinary team of 14 (full-time and part-time) Promote a positive, respectful and collaborative work culture aligned to the Passionists ethos Develop a long-term HR strategy including vendor selection and support Manage recruitment, onboarding, staff appraisals, staff scheduling and professional development Ensure full compliance with employment legislation, HR best practice and workplace safety Hold regular staff meetings to ensure good communication and planning Property and Facilities Management Overall responsibility for the good order and preventative and reactive maintenance of the full campus including monastery building, car park, grounds, Provincial House, the Church, the St Charles centre and cemetery. This includes the usual mech and elec, HVAC, water, internet, communications and security Review and management of all vendor/contractor contracts and service agreements to ensure quality, responsive service, value for money and adherence to best procurement practice. Hold regular service reviews with key or high-value vendors/contractors Encourage proactive health and safety awareness and management throughout the campus, ensuring all legislative requirements are met Management of the use of the St Charles Centre including hiring, access, billing, catering and cleaning Ensure a high standard of sanitation and cleanliness in the houses, church and St Charles centre Conduct regular internal audits for fall prevention, fire safety protocols, severe weather readiness for private and public spaces Lead emergency response planning Oversee any future restoration work in the Church Oversee all catering in the monastery Residential care and support With the Care Team, develop and implement a long-term high-quality Care of the Elderly strategy for the Mount Argus Community which includes optimal resourcing, activities, and facilities/equipment Align modern Care of the Elderly practices with Passionist community life Manage the Care of the Elderly budget and vendor relationships to ensure a safe, accessible and nurturing environment for senior and vulnerable community members Ensure catering and cleaning services meet dietary, hygienic, and comfort needs of residents and community members. Administration & Communication To manage all aspects of campus administration and reception To develop and implement budgeting and financial reporting, long-term capital replacement programmes Manage administrative workflows, record-keeping, campus archives, and official correspondence. Ensure compliance with charity regulation, data protection (GDPR), insurance requirements, and relevant statutory bodies in Ireland. To organise and chair regular communications meetings with the staff and the Rector, to ensure good communication, information exchange and planning, and to foster engagement Manage relations with external stakeholders, including local parish groups, St Charles centre users, local authorities, and service providers. Experience and competencies Essential: Relevant third-level qualification and/or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 + years experience in a similar general management or senior management role in a corporate or not-for-profit institution Proven track-record of managing multi-disciplinary operational teams, with an ability to motivate and empower Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, oversee financial reporting and optimise operational costs Strong administrative and organisation skills; negotiation and conflict resolution skills Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities to get things done Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills Sensitivity to efficient and effective execution in the context of a non-corporate, faith-based environment Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and regulation: HR, Health & Safety, GDPR, Safeguarding etc. Desirable: Experience in a charity, social care, healthcare, faith-based or mission-led organisation Experience in leading construction or restoration projects Compensation Salary: €70,000 + DOE 28 days annual leave plus statutory public holidays Pension Good work environment including car parking and main meal (Please note as this role requires on-site presence, hybrid or remote working is not a feature of this contract.)
