Job Description

Addiction Case Worker Post: Addiction Case Worker with responsibility of assisting with the day to day running of the Drug & Alcohol Service. To work as part of a team providing a holistic approach in dealing with the impact of addiction problems in Dublin North East Location: Donnycarney, Dublin 5 and Coolock Dublin 17 Reporting to: Overall Service Manager and Addiction Team Leader Principle Responsibilities The Case Worker will be expected to work as part of a team to carry out the following areas of work: Offer 1:1 key-working support and groups to those in addiction or recovery Assist in the development of programmes and activities designed to help local drug and alcohol mis-users address problems around their addiction. Develop a range of programmes / workshops and engage with both active and stabilised drug and alcohol users Develop Care/Progression plans for individuals. To continuously review and asses these on a quarterly basis in line with NDRIC standards Liaise with relevant statuary, community and voluntary agencies and professionals. Where appropriate, refer individuals to the appropriate agencies and develop with the service users and the full team, inter agency protocols and joint care plans. Devise appropriate outreach, recreation and interest programmes for services users attending our services with particular emphasis on Poly drug use. Assist in the development of addiction support groups In conjunction with the Manager assist and encourage service users in providing feedback on services, and enable individuals to participate more fully in the decisions relating to them and the regular evaluation of the programmes through discussion. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Donnycarney Youth Project, Donnycarney Justice Programme and Donnycarney Family & Child Service to effectively deliver a wraparound service to all persons within the family unit affected by addiction. Carry out all the lawful instructions of the Management Committee In addition to your normal duties you may be required to undertake other tasks assigned to you by the Addiction Team Leader. These other tasks will involve assisting with families and young people attending both youth service and family service as follows: Working with young people around addiction issues Assisting with educational supports Assisting with off-site trips when required Assisting Family Service Staff with young people To be fully informed of and adhere to all statutory guidelines and legislation and organisational policy and procedures This position will involve day, evening and occasional weekend work. Organisational Development Agree work plan and targets with the Manager/ATL Be aware and competent in the area of best practice as it applies to community drug and alcohol initiatives and community-based intervention, health promotion and outreach services Provide written monthly reports to the Manager/ATL Maintain professional, confidential records in relation to work with clients on our database (salesforce) As part of a team plan, develop, monitor and evaluate the appropriate programmes Attend staff meetings, other relevant project meetings and contribute to the overall development of Donnycarney Drug & Alcohol Team Be familiar with and take part in the preparation of Service level Agreements Community To develop relationships with the local community-based agencies on openness and trust To liaise and network with relevant statutory, voluntary and community services Evaluation Assist in the development and implementation of on-going evaluation processes which uses a quarterly outcome monitoring system and engage service users in this process Keep statistics and case studies as a support to evaluation and security of funding Keep records and information on all aspects of the project Confidentiality In the course of their duties the Case Worker will have access to and information concerning individuals and families using the projects services. All such information will be treated in a strictly confidential way. The Case Worker will be responsible for the safe keeping of confidential information in such a way as to prevent unauthorised access to this information. This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities and may be reviewed from time to time to reflect the needs of the service Donnycarney Drug & Alcohol Project Case Worker Personal Specification Experience Essential A minimum of three years experience at senior level in a Community based multi-disciplinary initiative Experience of Case Management and NDRIC Care Planning, key-working and writing case notes Demonstrate an ability to operate proactively, develop and co-ordinate new group initiatives Facilitation Skills Desirable A knowledge of the Donnycarney, Coolock and Dublin North East area Exceptional track record in community work and community development within the context of the drugs and alcohol Qualifications Essential Relevant third level (Level 8 degree) qualification in Social Science, Addiction Studies or similar discipline A recognised qualification in CRA, CBT, SMART Recovery, motivational interviewing or equivalent Desirable Qualification in one or more holistic therapies i.e. auricular acupuncture, reflexology, reiki Professional Knowledge Essential Detailed knowledge of current areas of best practice in relation to community drug and alcohol initiatives. Knowledge and experience of best practices in relation to working with Poly Drug Users Knowledge of Logic Model planning Knowledge of the importance of boundaries, ethics and best practice within an addiction setting Desirable Knowledge and experience of Statutory and Voluntary Agencies Core Competencies Essential Excellent interpersonal and communications skills Ability to provide a quality service and uphold all standards To foster a collaborative working environment, build good working relationships within a team and use an interagency approach Willingness to invest in professional development Ability to conduct oneself in an ethical and respectful manner Motivated and committed to evaluation of practice outcomes Excellent admin, recording and report writing skills with the ability to update the database. Desirable Computer literate to include MS Office A full clean driving licence and a willingness to undertake the D1 licence Experience using Salesforce Experience with Service Level Agreements and QQI.
